Meet the all-new Polestar 5!
It’s an all-electric performance GT that has class leaders like the Audi e-tron GT & Porsche Taycan in its sights!
The question is, does the Polestar offer enough to steer you away from the more established, best-in-class models that Germany has to offer? Let’s take a closer look…
In terms of the design, there’s no denying it has some real presence on the road. Up front, it comes with split headlight elements that really help it look menacing. You’ll find some fake vents at the front, although there’s a large vent across the bottom of the bumper that can close when the battery doesn’t need cooling. The safety sensors have also been well hidden, to further improve the looks. Along the side, there are contours on the doors to add more definition, coupled with frameless windows. The pop-out door handles may not be to everyone’s taste, but thankfully, both the front and rear doors have soft-close. Around the rear, the futuristic design cues continue, and the main statement here is a lack of a rear window!
On the inside, you’ll find similar Scandinavian minimalism as found in other Polestar cars - but that’s no bad thing! There are soft-touch, high-quality materials throughout the cabin, and the centre console is dominated by a large vertical infotainment screen. There are no physical buttons, so everything is managed through the screen, but thankfully the system is crisp and quick to use. The digital dials are easy to manage with buttons on the steering wheel, which is of a good size. It also comes with damped, high-quality stalks on either side.
The Polestar 5 comes with some serious power. All options come with two motors, with the entry-level being able to produce 748hp. If you choose the Performance version, this output is significantly boosted to 884hp! It’s powered by a 106kWh battery, and the Performance edition has a range of 416 miles.
But of course, all of this performance and power doesn’t come cheap. The Polestar 5 starts from £89,000, rising to £105,000 for the Performance edition. However, the car we’re reviewing here, with all options added, costs £117,000!
So would you really choose one of these over a Porsche? Let us know in the comments!
