For millions of people trying to get home tonight after another blazing hot day - yet more stress, with the prospect of train delays and cancellations.
Temperatures are unlikely to cool down significantly until Sunday - while severe thunderstorms are already affecting northern parts of the country.
It has meant continued disruption from hospital services to workplace logistics.
