Met police expands AI use despite concerns

The Metropolitan Police have announced a major expansion of technology across London, including drones, live facial recognition and AI.

Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has warned that tech is driving crime, not just enabling it - and without these tools, police will be outpaced by criminals.
But critics, and some within policing itself, say it's being rolled out faster than the law can keep up.
The London Mayor's office has told Channel 4 News that "the Met must run a new procurement process to choose an AI software supplier. While that happens, the Met can extend its trial use of Palantir."
