A red squirrel moves through the seasons of a forest, balancing winter survival with a quiet ecological role. As she gathers and buries acorns and nuts, avoids predators, and searches for dwindling food reserves, some of what she stores is left behind to germinate, helping the forest regenerate.
Seen closely through 4K cameras and short focal lenses, her daily routines reveal a wider network of forest relationships. From fungal spores carried through her droppings to competition with jays, woodpeckers, boars, and martens, the film connects one animal’s struggle to the cycles of growth, decay, and renewal that shape the ecosystem.
