Suspected pirates have hijacked two ships off the eastern coast of Somalia, according to the UK’s Maritime Trade Operations.

And there was an attempted hijacking in the same place last week.
Maritime security has now increased the threat level to “substantial” and has warned vessels to “transit with caution.”
Piracy around the Horn of Africa has declined in recent years - but many of the root causes of piracy have not changed.
It was a huge issue from around 2005 to 2018, with some tankers and crew members being held hostage for ransom payments.
This resurgence comes at a time where shipping is already under threat due to closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
