He tells Channel 4 News that his actions in a "political fight" are "somewhere between high and hell".
It comes as states across America's deep south are being accused of a major assault on Black voting rights, as their Republican leaders race to redraw political maps ahead of the midterm elections. It's the first time in decades they've been able to erase Black majority districts after a Supreme Court ruling last month ripped up the historic Voting Rights Act.
