China is watching “the mess” of the Iran war and the US blockade and it's working out how it could do things differently with Taiwan, says Jonathan Rugman, of the Royal United Services Institute.
And he warned that, for China, Taiwan was a "domestic issue" - not an "international" one - and a "stated intention".
