The job market isn’t collapsing equally for everyone. Experienced workers are still finding opportunities, but many young professionals are discovering that the entry-level jobs they were supposed to start with are disappearing.
This video explores what the new AI layoff data actually shows. Companies are increasingly citing artificial intelligence in job-cut announcements, while research suggests employment among young workers in AI-exposed occupations has fallen sharply. The biggest problem may not be mass firings. It may be the collapse of hiring for people who have never had a chance to gain experience. Software development, law, consulting, and finance are all facing pressure as AI takes over tasks traditionally assigned to junior employees. But economists still debate how much of the decline is caused by AI, higher interest rates, remote work, or other changes in the labor market.
The distinction matters. Because even if AI isn’t responsible for every lost job, a generation that can’t enter the workforce today may struggle to become the experienced workers companies need tomorrow.
