Fans Finally Force EA to Get its SH*T Together
EA has spent years pushing microtransactions, live-service mechanics, server shutdowns, and aggressive monetization into some of gaming’s biggest franchises. Then fans finally pushed back.
This video explores how the backlash surrounding College Football 27 turned into a full-scale consumer revolt. When EA introduced paid progression into popular single-player modes, players, creators, and even former EA partners began organizing against the decision. YouTuber James Bordeaux helped ignite the #CFBPLAYDONTPAY campaign, reviews began collapsing, and the pressure spread across social media and mainstream gaming coverage. Within days, EA reversed course and removed the controversial paid progression systems.
The victory wasn’t complete, and EA’s larger business strategy hasn’t suddenly changed. But the episode proved something important. Gamers aren’t powerless. When enough players stop paying, even EA has to listen.
