Authorities in Japan say several people are trapped and more than 50 have been injured after a major earthquake hit the island of Kyushu.

A number of buildings collapsed in the quake, which was followed by aftershocks. Bridges, roads and railway lines have also been damaged.
Fires have been reported and residents of Kumamoto province have been warned to stay on high alert for further seismic activity in the coming days.
