Meet the Aion UT, a new electric hatchback from China that could shake up the £30,000 EV market.
Bigger than a Renault 5 but smaller than a VW ID.3, the Aion UT combines a 60kWh LFP battery with a claimed 268-mile WLTP range, 201hp and a 0-62mph time of just 7.3 seconds.
But the numbers aren't the most interesting thing about it. The UT has a surprisingly huge 440-litre boot, loads of rear-seat space and a very generous standard specification. And then there's Aion's rather impressive “Great 8” ownership package, including an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty, eight years of servicing and roadside assistance, plus eight years of MOT cover.
So can this newcomer take on the Renault 5, Renault 4, MG4, BYD Atto 2, Kia EV2 and Cupra Raval? And who exactly is Aion?
