Vauxhall Corsa GSE vs Alpine A290: Which Electric Hot Hatch Is BEST?
https://www.electrifying.com/reviews/vauxhall-reviews/corsa-gse/review
https://www.electrifying.com/reviews/alpine/a290/review
The electric hot hatch has arrived — but which one is the best?
The Vauxhall Corsa GSE packs a huge 281hp, gets from 0-62mph in just 5.5 seconds and costs £32,995 after the Electric Car Grant. The Alpine A290 GTS+ is less powerful, with 220hp and a 6.4-second 0-62mph time, but it weighs around 75kg less and costs £34,245 after the grant.
So, is the Corsa's extra power enough to beat the Alpine?
We put the two electric hot hatches head-to-head to find out which is more fun to drive, which has the better interior, which is easier to live with and whether outright performance really matters.
The Corsa GSE gets a Torsen limited-slip differential, bespoke suspension, wider tracks and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, while the Alpine A290 gets its own suspension, steering and braking setup, plus an 'OV' overtake button that unleashes maximum power for 10 seconds.
There's also a 52kWh battery in the Alpine and a 51kWh unit in the Corsa, with both capable of charging at up to 100kW. The Alpine has a maximum WLTP range of 234 miles, while the Corsa manages up to 232 miles depending on the tyres fitted.
And these aren't the only electric hot hatches competing for your money. We also have the Peugeot E-208 GTi, Cupra Raval VZ and MINI John Cooper Works Electric waiting in the wings.
So which one would you choose?
