The Hyundai Ioniq 3 is here to take on some seriously good electric hatchbacks – including the Renault 5, Cupra Raval and new VW ID.Polo. But Hyundai has taken a rather different approach.
Instead of chasing huge power and a 0-62mph time to brag about, the Ioniq 3 focuses on light weight, efficiency, practicality and genuinely enjoyable driving. The Long Range version has 135hp and takes around 9.5 seconds to reach 62mph, but with up to 308 miles of WLTP range, it goes further than all of its key rivals.
It’s practical, too. There’s 441 litres of luggage space, including a clever 119-litre ‘Megabox’ beneath the boot floor, while the cabin gets Hyundai’s new Pleos Connect infotainment system, physical climate controls and some smart EV features.
So, is the Hyundai Ioniq 3 the small electric car to beat? Or would you take the faster Cupra Raval, VW ID.Polo or characterful Renault 5 instead?
