Does the Pacific have a problem with blackness? | The Pacific | ABC News
Actor Lupita Nyong’o said, “colourism is the daughter of racism.” And while Pacific people come in different shades and tones, those with darker skin tones or with black heritage continue to be discriminated against.
In some Pasifika countries darker skin can be perceived negatively, some even using products to make their skin fairer.
Colourism is an issue that continues to plague many ethnic communities, and the Pacific region is no different.
‘The Pacific’ is hosted by Johnson Raela and Alice Lolohea.
