Jaw-Dropping Moment GOP Rep Says: 'Slavery is Over. Jim Crow is Dead.'
Rep. Wesley Hunt pushed back against comparisons to Jim Crow during a congressional hearing, arguing that America has moved beyond its history of slavery and segregation. Hunt, a Black Republican representing a majority-White district in Texas, cited his own family history as the descendant of slaves while defending conservative values and the idea of America as a Christian nation.
"As someone who is a direct descendant of a slave, as someone whose great-great-grandfather was born on a plantation, I can assure you, slavery is over. Jim Crow is dead," Hunt proclaimed.
