This Week Nearly Ended The Expedition
Every expedition is subject to challenge and disaster. In fact, without the risk of these factors, it truly would not be an expedition, and these will be the times we look back on and feel proud to have overcome. That being said, this was a very challenging week for me. I have gotten my fair share of trucks stuck in the mud over the years, but because of the weight, I am very careful not to risk getting the Rig stuck, but this week - it happened.
I didn't talk much about it in the episode, but I also accidentally backed the truck into a tree for the first time, and the camper did sustain some mild damage. The good news is, the crack repair from this past maintenance season withstood the impact and stayed intact.
The rear end failure... This was an unexpected one. Judging by the feel and sound (lack there of) of this new rear end, I suspect that the previous had been failing for quite some time. With more than 300k km on the gears and bearings, it was about time for a rebuild anyways, but I can't believe there was no sign of failure when I changed the oil only a few thousand km ago. Maybe I busted it in the mud hole. lol
