Growing old in PNG, families left to cope on their own | The Pacific
In Papua New Guinea, caring for your parents in old age isn't a choice. It's a duty built into culture and custom. With few aged care services, no nursing homes and little help from government - one family member is often forced to give up work or study to become a full-time carer.
From Port Moresby homes to its streets, the elderly and their carers say they need help. PNG reporter Belinda Kora explores the hidden challenges of ageing, and the families left to cope on their own.
‘The Pacific’ is hosted by Johnson Raela and Alice Lolohea.
