My name is Rinaldo Andrew Erskine, and I am based in Durham, North Carolina. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and a master’s in Engineering Management.
I began my career at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, where I worked for about seven years in tire manufacturing as a chemical engineer. During this time, I was involved in projects focused on improving processes and reducing waste.
Over the past five years, I have transitioned into the pharmaceutical industry, where I work on large-scale construction projects. My role spans both construction as well as commissioning and validation, allowing me to contribute across multiple phases of project execution.
My decision to upskill was driven by both professional needs and personal interest. During my time in manufacturing, I had exposure to lean methodologies and even led projects using DMAIC principles, although I wasn’t formally certified.
After moving into the pharmaceutical construction space, I realized there were fewer opportunities to apply structured lean practices. However, I saw a strong opportunity to introduce lean thinking—especially in areas like schedule optimization, process efficiency, and data-driven decision-making.
Pursuing this certification was a way for me to formalize my knowledge and bring those principles into my current field.
