With sub-£20k electric cars finally hitting the market, we rounded up three of UK's cheapest options to see which one truly delivers. The retro-inspired Honda Super-N brings unique charm and a starting price of £18,995, but how does it hold up against the longer-range BYD Dolphin Surf and the roomier Citroën e-C3 Urban? We put these EVs through the ultimate real-world test, driving through London, on the motorway and on country roads.

In this video, our team starts by testing these budget electric cars in their natural habitat: the city. We start with a parallel parking challenge to see if the Honda Super-N's ultra-short 3599mm footprint gives it an edge. We then head into busy traffic to test visibility, ride comfort and turning circles.
Next, we head out of town to test the motorway driving manners and real-world charging speeds of our contenders, before an overnight stop in the South Downs. The following morning we compare interior tech, build quality and practicality. Can tall adults really sit comfortably in the back?
We then line these sub-£20k EVs up on a runway for a drag race to test their 0-60mph and 1/4-mile acceleration, and try out the Honda Super-N's hilarious 'Boost Mode' and simulated manual gearbox! Finally, we crunch the numbers, comparing Euro NCAP safety ratings, standard equipment and monthly PCP finance costs to crown the ultimate affordable electric car.
