My name is John Carlo Appalacio. I was born in the Philippines and moved to California at a young age, where I completed my schooling in the greater Los Angeles area. I later transferred from Los Angeles Community College to UCLA and graduated in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
After working briefly in mechanical engineering roles, I realized the industry wasn’t the right fit for me. I then transitioned into a data analyst role at a startup clothing company, where I spent several years gaining hands-on analytical experience. Later, I worked as a private tutor teaching mathematics and physics, and eventually joined a nonprofit organization as a financial coach, supporting individuals in reentry and underserved communities through financial education and one-on-one coaching.
Following a serious accident in 2024 and a period of recovery, I reassessed my career direction. This reflection led me to pursue software engineering and begin my upskilling journey.
My experience with the Full Stack Development program has been extremely positive. What attracted me most was the structured, beginner-friendly, step-by-step approach, which made the transition into programming much more accessible.
