Instead of sitting on a standard E7 chord, you can move through the whole neck using just two alternating shapes on the A and G strings. The pattern is a half step interval between the two strings, and you just walk those shapes up the fretboard in a sequence that covers a ton of ground.
It's got that classic blues groove feel without ever playing a traditional chord voicing, which gives it a different kind of movement and texture. The two shapes keep alternating the whole way up, so once you've got the fingering down the pattern becomes pretty intuitive to navigate.
It works as a full substitution for an E7 vamp or just as a way to add some motion to a static chord moment. Try it out!
