China test-fires a missile in the Pacific hours after Australia signs its new defence pact | 7.30

First came the surprise announcement that Australia and Fiji were signing a major defence agreement, then news broke that the Chinese government would test-fire a nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile.
A Chinese Navy spokesman said the test was routine, but it looks more likely to have been timed to coincide with Fiji and Australia announcing the boost to their defence relationship.
