The US and Iran exchanged strikes over the weekend after the Islamic Republic shot down an American drone — testing the limits of the cease-fire in the three-month war.
Tehran retaliated by launching attacks on a US base in Kuwait. The firefight started when Iran targeted a MQ-1 Reaper drone that was operating over international waters, according to US Central Command.
American fighters “swiftly responded by eliminating Iranian air defenses, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones that posed clear threats to ships transiting regional waters,” CENTCOM said late Sunday.
The strikes centered around Qeshm Island, which is home to an underground “missile city” and is surrounded by Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces. Meanwhile, Iranian State TV released footage showing Revolutionary Guard fast-attack boats conducting patrols in the Strait of Hormuz.
