Vaccination is one of the main pillars of public health across the world. The goal of vaccination programmes is to protect and improve the health of the entire population through disease prevention. For example, a vaccine eradicated Smallpox, a disease estimated to have killed around 300 million people in the 20th Century.
As with any medical intervention, great care is given to ensuring that the potential benefits and any potential harms of vaccines are carefully considered. These can be complex considerations, and it is understandable that people may want to find out more. That may be particularly the case given that vaccines are often focussed at times when we may be facing changes in our lives such as in pregnancy or as we get older. We also face making medical decisions on behalf of our children.
