Ed Sheeran’s Tour in Chaos After Macklemore Firing: Timeline of Events
Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour faces major upheaval after four supporting acts, including Billie Eilish’s brother, FINNEAS, and the band that actually backs Ed all pulled out of future dates. The shakeup comes after rapper Macklemore, one of Sheeran’s opening acts, spoke out in support of Palestinians during his Sept. 4 performance at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The following day, Pink criticized Macklemore’s comments in a social media post before clarifying ,she was not calling for him to be fired or silenced. About a week later, Macklemore announced he had been removed from the tour, claiming Robert Kraft, the owner of Gillette Stadium, was behind the decision. Sheeran addressed the controversy on Sept. 15, saying he did not want to take sides in the conflict and that Macklemore’s removal was a decision made by the tour’s promoters and venues, not him. In the hours following Sheeran’s statement, FINNEAS, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe and Sheeran’s longtime touring band, Beoga, announced their departures from the tour in solidarity with Macklemore.
