How DEADLY Flash Flood on Nepal-Tibet Border Developed
A terrifying wall of mud, ice and debris ripped through villages along the Nepal-China border, killing at least 270 people and leaving hundreds missing. The deadly avalanche of sludge was triggered when a chunk of glacier broke loose more than 16,000 feet above sea level, melting and gathering a massive load of sediment as it hurtled toward the valley below. Scientists say the hyper-concentrated torrent — likened to wet concrete moving at more than 100 mph — can swallow virtually everything in its path, with climate change making such high-altitude collapses increasingly likely.
