Authorities arrested Massachusetts state Rep. Francisco Paulino and charged him with 11 counts related to alleged pandemic unemployment insurance fraud, pandemic loan fraud and money laundering. Paulino's arrest comes after Lawrence Mayor Brian DePeña's arrest on similar charges. U.S. Attorney Leah Foley said Paulino allegedly obtained more than $700,000 in federal pandemic relief funds and used some of the money for personal expenses, loan payments, real estate costs and transfers to his campaign account. Authorities also allege he lent some of the funds to others at higher interest rates.
