Stolen Paintings Found at Estate Sale and Returned to Owners Nearly 50 Years Later

Two Eastman Johnson paintings worth hundreds of thousands of dollars have been returned to their rightful owners thanks to a New York antiques dealer. Brandon Levine says he was at an estate sale when his eye was drawn to Eastman Johnson's “The Young Mother.” A second Johnson painting, titled “Mary and Her Lamb,” was also part of that collection, and after some research, Levine discovered that both paintings were actually stolen in 1978. A local auction house was later able to reunite the paintings with their original owners.
