Discount grocery plan sparks backlash over ID requirement #shorts

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's proposed city-run grocery store program drew criticism after city officials said a "library-card-esque" system could be used to verify New York City residents and prevent abuse of the planned 30% grocery discount. Responding to questions about preventing discounted items from being bought in bulk and resold for profit, Mamdani said the program is intended to help New Yorkers afford groceries, not create resale opportunities.
