Memorizing scale shapes helps, but it won’t stop you from getting lost. The real shortcut is knowing your root notes all over the neck. When you think in terms of the tonal center instead of boxes, your licks connect naturally and your solos start to make sense. Quiz yourself on where the root lives in every position and build your phrases around it. This mindset opens the fretboard way faster than memorizing another shape!
