This presentation explores the operational challenges that Open Source Program Offices (OSPOs) face as companies expand globally. In today’s business environment, organizations operating across different regions encounter diverse issues - ranging from managing varying local regulations and risk practices to coordinating teams distributed around the world. Using Sony’s OSPO as a case study, this talk provides real-life examples of how multinational companies identify these challenges and implement strategic responses. Insights from Alin in EU region and Kobota in Japan highlight the unique obstacles in each region and the measures taken to overcome them. By comparing legal frameworks, internal processes, and cultural practices, the presentation illustrates how overcoming these hurdles can lead to stronger corporate collaboration, sustainable innovation, and the creation of new value for the open source community.
