I3C, the Industry, and Linux - Wolfram Sang, Renesas
It is somewhat known that I3C was designed to be a successor of I2C. Apart from that, there is little knowledge and experience about it, especially in the Linux world. Quite surprisingly because its subsystem has been added to the Kernel more than 7 years ago and I3C already made its way into specifications like DDR5 an PCIe. This talk examines the situation and presents the status quo of I3C in general, its adoption in different industries, and its support in the Linux Kernel. It will tell what can reasonably be expected from I3C currently and what not. To give attendees this head start, information not only from the net, but also from MIPI conferences, hallway tracks, and personal experience will be combined. And finally, I3C is also an instructive example of what would be needed to make such a subsystem thrive in the Linux Kernel.
