Sung Roh, 47, is a cobbler who specializes in upcycling sneakers. She launched her business Cobbler Bushwick Co. from her Brooklyn basement in late 2022, and now works from a combination cobbler-and-coffee shop called Cobbler Bushwick Roaster.
It may not be lucrative — but money isn’t the point of her business, she says. “I get energy from the community ... local people, rather than people I’ve never seen, [buying shoes in] an online transaction.”
