Reports by state-affiliated media and rights groups claim "six people" have died in clashes between protestors and security forces.
While President Trump warned that if Iran "violently kills peaceful protestors" then the US would "come to their rescue", adding "we are locked and loaded and ready to go".
An Iranian leader accused Mr Trump of "starting the adventurism".
