Shadow Mapping Basics
Get the full Drawing Basics course 20% off through December 4th - https://proko.com/drawing
Instead of jumping into rendering details, many artists first map out the separation between light and shadow. This process, called shadow mapping, is the key to making your forms look solid and three-dimensional right from the start. In this lesson, you'll learn how to identify the three types of shadow edges and place them correctly, whether you're drawing from observation or imagination.
You'll learn how to find the terminator on complex organic forms and how to avoid common mistakes, like getting confused by soft light or dark halftones. At the end, you'll get a project with two levels of difficulty to help you practice inventing a light source and making your forms pop off the page.
