Beyond the Duomo - Florence's Piazza della SS Annunziata | Guided Tour
Arguably one of the most harmonious squares in Florence, Piazza della Santissima Annunziata is home to works by some of the greatest artists and architects of the Renaissance period.
In 1250, the area of the Piazza was chosen as the site for a church (that gives the Piazza its name) by the Florentine Servite Order. Originally located in the countryside outside Florence's city walls in Cafaggio, it can now be reached via Via dei Servi from the Duomo.
In this video, Kate Bolton-Porciatti tours the Piazza, showcasing the mammoth statue of Ferdinand I, the Renaissance-style Foundling Hospital, and the Basilica, home to the 'miraculous' Annunciation and superb frescoes in its porticoed courtyard.
