The US military has said that it attacked multiple targets in Syria that it linked to the Islamic State group in retaliation for an attack that killed two American soldiers.

It said 70 targets were hit during what it called 'Operation Hawkeye', as the two soldiers killed in Syria were from the 'Hawkeye State' of Iowa. US officials said they had hit infrastructure and weapon storage sites used by the Islamic State. They said they were supported by the Jordanian military in carrying out the strikes.
